Today we went to the Lady Flames and Boy’s Flames Basketball game. The Lady Flames lost their game 42-39 but the Boy’s won theirs. It was a pretty heated game but the boys managed to stay in control. I believe the score ending with a 65 to 33 victory. Way to go Flames!

Today is Homecoming at ECS and the theme is Winter Wonderland. We will be busy getting the hair ready, nails and makeup for the event. The decorations were beautiful and the kids looked really pretty but don’t take my word for it take a look at the pictures.

As you know, tax time is here and I’m back to preparing taxes. It’s funny in a way how ignorant we can be. I wanted to share this story because it makes me wonder what we are teaching in school or better yet, what we are NOT teaching. A young girl (20 years old) wanted her taxes prepared. After finalizing her taxes, she had a refund of little over $100. After she saw the amount, she said that she could go online and get more money than what I told her. Her return was a simple return: One W2 and no other deductions. She said that she received more money last year and made less money. I tried to explain to her that the more money she makes, more taxes will be taken out. She then said to me “Well who keeps the rest of my money?” When I told her Uncle Sam, she said “No, that’s not right.” She will definately be shocked when she realizes that she cannot get more money online. The funny thing is that she thinks that the government takes out taxes all year long to give it back to us at the end of the year? Get real!!!

Well, the Holidays are over and college winter break is officially over. Time to get back into the routine again. Hopefully this semester will bring better classes and better grades. Tomorrow is a Holiday so we will spend a relaxing day off at home. This week we are preparing for mid-terms to see how much we’ve really learned. Of course, around the corner is Homecoming and a Ski Trip to break the winter routine. Let us not forget Tax time. It’s time to start gathering the information for taxes.

Hard to believe that a year has gone by. We celebrated our New Years at home. We watched Batman Begins and watch the ball drop. On New Year’s Day we went to a friend’s house for dinner. It is part of the southern tradition to eat Black Eyed Peas as a good luck symbol. Needless to say, we ate Black Eyed Peas and Ham and some other sides. The food was great. We played a long game of Apples to Apples and had a fun time.
I want to close by wishing our family and friends a Happy New Year.
