Today, I’m driving through my neighborhood and I had to stop to wait for this lady to back out of her drive way. It was taking her a few moments and I started wondering why it was taking her so long to put the car in drive and go. When, I finally got a closer view, guess what she was doing? She was talking on her cell phone. She is only is just backing out of her drive way. You have to wonder, why she didn’t use her house phone and finish the call before getting in the car. What would we do, without those cell phones.

It’s been almost five months that we have been attending Emmanuel Baptist Church. When we started attending, there was a gentlemen sitting in one of the pew and my girls said to me that it looked like someone from our previous church. I told her, “No way. He moved to Indiana.” So I dismissed it and thought that if I ever ran into him, I would ask him if he had a brother. Every time we see him in church, he is not close enough to talk to him. My girls, every time they see him, say “Mom, there’s Mr. Ron,” and we would laugh about it. Well on one of the days of our revival, this gentlemen approached us and said, “Do you remember me?” and I hesitantly said, “Mr. Ron?” We both began laughing. He told us he’d been attending since April but had never seen us until this week. Turns out he is temporarily in the area. What a small world!

It is a rainy cold day here in Dale City. Nothing better than siting here watch Iowa play football. Not much going on, there is nothing better that just being lazy around the house.
It is interesting to see the attitudes of people about my employer, AOL. Most only focus on the shrinking subscriber base, they have a laser focus on that and only that. It is almost like they think AOL has no idea that they are losing subscribers. Yeah we know that already, and we have been working on other avenues for some time now. Live 8 is a good example of driving eyeballs to the site. And that is just the beginning of change at AOL.
There have been several news articles about how we are now the “belle of the ball”. Most are astonished at the change, but then again most miss what is really happening AOL. A good article, and someone who “gets it”, is from The Economist . It is certainly interesting times at AOL. From talking to most people at work, if it was up to us, it would be anyone but Microsoft. Although with Google’s huge rise in price last Friday, up 12%, it would be nice to be part of that…
Oh… btw… Iowa lost in overtime to Michigan 17-20…. bummer…

Today we went to Dulles Airport for the 13th Annual Plane Pull. The Plane pull was a fundraiser for the Virginia Special Olympics. There was two groups (AOL Dulles and AOL Reston) of 20 men/women from AOL competing, along with other major companies. The Reston Team had beaten the Dulles Team and was ranking 3rd overall at the time of our departure. This was not some small Cessna. This was a FedEx cargo plane named “Two Bears”, the plane is a Boeing 727 which weighted in at 148,000 pounds. Our goal was to pull this plane 12 feet. It was easier that it sounded, actually. We were able to pull the plane that distance in 7.501 seconds. The results of the plane pull.
